Frequently Asked Questions

Aqua Ply Plus

The simple answer is AQUA PLY PLUS® is the pressure-treated and kiln dried version of our marine specific AQUA PLY® panel. Both panels are manufactured to withstand tough marine applications; providing excellent structural strength and screw-holding properties. AQUA PLY PLUS® panels are pressure-treated with AQUA SEAL® which is fixed into the cellular structure of the panel. AQUA PLY PLUS® provides manufacturers with our lifetime limited AQUA TECH® warranty against structural failure due to fungal decay, termite damage and manufacturing defects such as delamination. If you would like further information or have questions on the differences between AQUA PLY® and AQUA PLY PLUS® or you would like to know more about our industry-best AQUA TECH® warranty or AQUA SEAL® preservative, please contact your Affiliated Resources marine industry representative.

Aqua Cel

We provide two versions of our AQUA CEL®: AQUA CEL® - Smooth and AQUA CEL® - Abraded. Our Smooth panel’s typical end-use applications include marine seat bottoms and backs, marine combing panels, upholstered pads, outdoor cabinetry, box bases, kick plates and foot rests. Our Abraded panel is an ideal core substrate that adds substantial stiffness and flexural strength to fiberglass sandwich laminates with very little weight increase.

Our AQUA CEL® panels are produced from a cellular, rigid expanded PVC (polyvinyl chloride). It is an ideal marine substrate for upholstery or coring due to its superior screw and staple holding properties, excellent strength to weight ratio and positive flotation rating.

Yes, our AQUA CEL® - Abraded panel is uniquely abraded to offer a rough surface texture for enhanced bonding capabilities. It is compatible with virtually all resin systems, bonds well with epoxies, polyesters, vinyl esters, and polyurethanes.

It depends on the thickness. Please refer to the tech sheet, for your specific panel, in the download section.

Aqua Beam Plus

Our AQUA BEAM PLUS® is constructed using Western Group 1 veneers that are staggered and layered with the grain direction running parallel to the length of the beam billet. This alignment is a key factor in producing dimensionally stable beams with greater load bearing capabilities and reliable strength properties that are required for tough marine applications.

In a marine application, it is ideal for stringer systems due to the grain direction, of each veneer, running parallel to the length of the beam billet.

Our standard thicknesses are 1-1/4”, 1-1/2” and 1-3/4”with standard widths running from 3-1/2 through 14” and lengths from 8’ through 20’. Additional special dimensions are available upon request. You can locate our AQUA BEAM PLUS® specifications in our download section.

Aqua Shield

The “shield” refers to the polyvinyl acting as a moisture barrier, or shield, from water absorption.

The polyvinyl laminate film is adhered to the AQUA PLY PLUS® substrate utilizing a roll pressure process in a heated continuous film laminating system to secure a uniform bond throughout. Catalyzed cross-linked EVA exterior adhesives are used to prevent moisture from compromising the glue bond.
